Members of the global Putting Survivors at the Center (PSAC) team recently united at the bi-annual Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, where they presented on the project to the over 1,000 researchers, practitioners, policymakers, activists and survivors in attendance, representing nearly 100 countries. The team highlighted the formative research guiding the project, and explained how the various pilot program models were developed, including the findings that emerged at the midpoint of the year-long pilot activities. PSAC team members also had the opportunity to engage with other humanitarian GBV actors and organizations through various fora and events at SVRI and were able to raise awareness about PSAC.

The PSAC team has several events planned for the fall. In late September, the team hosted another public webinar about the progress of Putting Survivors at the Center based on midpoint workshops conducted in the program countries. The global technical advisory group (TAG) of PSAC also met at the end of September to discuss the ongoing pilots in more detail. Later this month, Putting Survivors at the Center will be presenting a poster at the upcoming Sexual Violence and Research Initiative (SVRI) annual conference in Cape Town, South Africa, October 22-25, 2024. The PSAC team has been busy! The past six months have marked the first half of Phase II (pilot implementation) in all three country sites. To mark the launch of the programs, the GWI and WfWI global teams hosted a public webinar in April 2024 (You can watch the recording here and see our presentation slides here). During the webinar, the team introduced the pilot development process and the pilot goals in each of the three countries. The team also introduced the program to the global gender-based violence area of responsibility (GBV AoR)–a global community of practitioners working to streamline GBV prevention and response interventions in humanitarian contexts– during their monthly meeting. Also in April, Putting Survivors at the Center was featured in the George Washington student newspaper The Hatchet.
